Armadale Health Service Ligature Risk Remediation

TPS was engaged by East Metropolitan Health Service to carry out ligature risk remediation works for the Leschen Unit across four separate wards – Moodjar, Banksia, Yorgum and Karri at Armadale Health Service, ensuring a safer environment for patients and staff.

The project was completed in a live environment across seven carefully planned stages for the Moodjar Ward, two carefully planned stages for the Banksia Ward and two carefully planned stages for the Karri Ward addressing key risk areas within patient rooms. Due to the high ricks nature of the patients in the Yorgum Ward, the entire Ward was shutdown and a reduced time program was followed. Works included the removal and replacement of fixtures and fittings with anti-ligature solutions, installation of tamper-proof hardware, and modifications to structural elements to enhance patient safety while maintaining a therapeutic setting.

Coordination with subcontractors and third-party suppliers was critical, particularly for specialised safety equipment and materials. Collaboration with the design and clinical team ensured that modifications aligned with best-practice standards and patient care requirements.

With limited access and the need to maintain hospital operations, all deliveries and works were meticulously planned to minimise disruption. Through strategic planning and effective stakeholder engagement, TPS is successfully delivering a safer, modernised environment within the Leschen Unit, reinforcing Armadale Health Service’s commitment to high-quality mental health care.
